There Is a Rough Path to Your Promised Land
Many aspire to get to the top, enjoy the beauty of achievement, but in most cases, we hardly take into consideration the ROUGH PATH TO THE PROMISED LAND.
Every promised land has its ups and downs, but only the rugged and steadfast get to the promised Land. Every vision begins as a whisper—soft, fragile, easily ignored. The Promised Land is not handed to anyone; it's not meant for just anybody; it is earned, you must pay the price, endure the trial, and come out with testimony. The road to the Promised Land is rough, full of storms that test your patience. If you have a dream, you must understand this fact: in this present world, good things don't come easily, because there are forces that naturally want to resist you from getting to your Promised Land. But you will get there —if you endure and do not give up.
I would like to use Daniel as a case study. His story is unique. After all, among many who are in captivity, he was singled out because he was determined and focused not to fail or be counted among the failures. Many of us have read the story. In fact, you may even be facing such challenges right now, but relax, by the time you read through this article, the strength you need to cross to your Promised Land will come up. The Role of Determination
Sometimes fear would set in; this is one of those things you will experience while you take the path of determination to your Promised Land. The fear of "Am I on the right path, am I really doing the right thing, what if I fail"?, many thoughts will come, but you must remain determined.
People may never see anything good coming out of you. No, every great man is not looking great at the beginning, nobody recognised them, no associate, no friend, no supporter, but because they see light at the end of the tunnel, it gives them the propelling mind to keep going, no matter the failure they encounter, something great will come alive.
"Let's look at Ingvar Kamprad (IKEA, Sweden). Kamprad started IKEA in 1943 as a teenager, selling pens, wallets, and picture frames. In the 1950s, furniture became his main product, but Swedish competitors boycotted him, refusing to sell materials to IKEA. Instead of giving up, Kamprad innovated. He started designing his own furniture, cutting costs, and inventing the flat-pack model (self-assembly furniture). He also shifted production to Poland, where costs were lower. IKEA grew into the world’s largest furniture retailer, famous for affordable, modern designs. Kamprad’s persistence through rejection and obstacles built a global empire".
If Kamprad has given in to distraction along the line, today he will not be recorded among the celebrated heroes. Your determination plays a bigger role in getting your Promised Land. Failure is allowed, but remaining a failure is not; all you need is to learn from your failure and move on to the next level. Every failure you experience is a lesson not to fail again.
The failure you experience may result in mockery, bullying and being sidelined, but you must say to yourself, even if I walk alone in my failure, I will not give up.
Determination is the first step after your vision
The Role of Frustration And Distraction
Frustration and distraction cannot be overemphasised in the quest for the Promised Land. Much water passes through the bridge, only the one you see and know. At first, you may be wondering why you can't find someone who believes in you, or knows how you feel and sees what you see. Some may castigate you for wasting your time; no one will invest their time and money in this kind of project. The reality of this is that it is also one of those things you must encounter to reach your destination; they are the rough roads you will encounter.
Determination toward your goals is important; it helps to overcome frustration and distraction. One of the richest men in Nigeria, Aliko Dangote (Dangote Group), started his business in the late 1970s with a small loan from his uncle, with determination and zeal. He sold sugar, rice, and cement in Kano. The Nigerian business environment at the time was harsh — poor infrastructure, unstable policies, and stiff competition from foreign companies. He faced a lot of frustration while he tried to get something done, but he ignored the distraction and frustration, focusing only on his dream. Today, he is one of the richest men in the world. In the quest for the Promised Land, frustration is one of the things that must be dealt with before getting to the Promised Land.
Daniel thought passion alone would carry him to the Promised Land, not knowing that many other terms are attached to it. He sketched plans late into the night, poured his energy into small beginnings, and waited for breakthroughs to emerge. But nothing came. He was frustrated by the system that should have appreciated him; many factors around you may not allow you to proceed to the next level. In fact, some will drag you backwards when you should have taken the step to the next level.
The Idea you shared with friends may be ignored, discouraged, or frustrated, but you must not allow what anyone says to determine your next step to the Promise Land. Friends will laugh at you and say so many discouraging words to you, but you must not stop dreaming of your Promised Land.
Let's examine some of the Key roles of Frustration and Distraction.
- Test of Patience: Frustration makes the journey harder, tempting you to quit before the breakthrough. This is the time your strength is tested in your quest for your Promised Land. You must learn to be patient in the journey of life.
- It's led to complaints: Just like the Israelites in the wilderness, frustration often leads to murmuring, negativity, and loss of focus. Try as much as possible to avoid complaining, especially when the journey becomes tough.
- Clouds Vision: It can blind you to opportunities and solutions because you’re focused on the pain instead of the goal. At this junction, you must not allow the frustration to stop you from focusing or dreaming; you can take a break for some time if you can.
- Weakens Persistence: If unmanaged, frustration drains energy and slows progress toward the promised land. Don't allow this to weaken you; encourage yourself and remain strong. Read books, take counsel.
- A Teacher: Properly handled, frustration pushes you to innovate, grow stronger, and find new ways forward. Once you take a break, think over what is making you frustrated in your journey and learn from it.
The Role Betrayal
Betrayal on the journey to the Promised Land has the power to kill vision and weaken zeal. Yet you must always ask yourself: If I am betrayed, will that be the end of my journey, or will I rise and move forward?
Daniel experienced betrayal from those who should have stood with him in the king’s court. Their scheme cast him into the lions’ den. But by God’s intervention, he emerged unharmed and victorious.
The truth is this: your determination and focus are sustained by God’s help, and are your greatest defence. This is why you must stay connected to God at all times — so that in the day of betrayal and challenge, He will stand and fight for you.
You can experience betrayal in many ways to your Promised Land; it may be with your business associate, sponsor, family, friends, etc. You need God's intervention for your escape.
Key Factor Of Betrayal
- Breaks Trust and Relationships: Betrayal often comes from close allies or trusted people. It weakens the trust needed for teamwork and progress. This often weakens the progress already established.
- Creates Emotional Wounds: The pain of betrayal can cause bitterness, discouragement, and loss of confidence, which slows down the journey. It makes the journey look so tiring and frustrating; you must avoid it at all costs or develop the capacity to overcome it.
- Opens the Door to Delay: Betrayal can scatter plans, expose secrets, or sabotage progress, forcing a restart or detour.
- Test Loyalty and Focus: It challenges you to decide whether to stay bitter or stay committed to the bigger vision. This is where your strength of focus and determination comes in.
- Reveals Character of the Betrayed: Your reaction to betrayal (revenge vs. resilience) often determines whether you still reach your Promised Land. Enabling you to know the type of team you have and how you can deal with them.
Your determination and focus are sustained by God’s help
The Role Of Falling and the Rising
Failure in any quest in life is a stepping stone to a great future. It happens almost at every event of success, especially when you are a novice in the field you are pursuing in life.
"Colonel Harland Sanders (Founder of KFC, USA) faced failure almost his entire life. He dropped out of school at a young age, tried many jobs — farmhand, streetcar conductor, insurance salesman — but lost most of them. His gas station business collapsed during the Great Depression. At age 65, his restaurant failed after a new highway diverted traffic away from his location". You see that failure in any quest in life cannot be overemphasised, but the way you handle it when it happens matters.
The Role of Giving Up
Many great destinies have been forgotten because they gave up along the way to the Promised Land.
Challenges are real, you can't escape them, but giving up on the way never leads to the promised land. Let me tell you this: everyone on the path to greatness has thoughts about the challenges of life, but the truth of the matter is, when you are driven with passion and zeal, determination will be easily manifest.
Thomas Edison (USA) tried thousands of times to invent a working light bulb. Many around him mocked and doubted him. Failure after failure could have made him give up. Instead of quitting, Edison reframed failure. He said, “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” His persistence led to the successful creation of the electric light bulb, which transformed the world. If Edison had given up, the “Promised Land” of his vision would have died in darkness. His refusal to quit lit up generations.
The truth of this journey is that when you give up, thousands of people will be affected by what they could have benefited from your innovation, achievements, wealth, company, etc. Many destinies are tied to what you could have become if only you could have held on and been steadfast in your journey to your Promised Land.
What will happen when you give up
- Aborts Destiny: Quitting before the breakthrough ends the journey prematurely — the Promised Land is never reached. This means thousands meant to benefit from your innovation will be stranded.
- Waste Sacrifice: All the effort, pain, and time already invested become wasted if you stop midway. Why start when you know you will not finish it?
- Empowers Obstacles: When you give up, the challenge wins, not because it’s stronger, but because you surrendered. It will blindfold the whole vision in just a moment. You won't be able to think further again.
- Steals Testimony: The Story that could have been said will be wiped out. Giving up denies you the joy of telling your success story and inspiring others. Only those who endure to the end can testify, not those who give up.
- Blocks Divine Intervention: Many times, God’s help comes at the last stretch; quitting early closes the door.
When you give up, you deprive many of the benefits they could have enjoyed through your innovation.
The Flicker of Hope
Steadfastness in your work speaks gradually. This is what you must know: in the quest for the Promised Land, it is like a seed of corn, when sown, it first sprouts, then to the reproductive stage, then to the harvest stage. Hope is like this if you do not give up.
Nelson Mandela (South Africa) Mandela spent 27 years in prison for fighting apartheid. He was cut off from his family, his people, and even the outside world. At times, the weight of injustice and isolation nearly broke his spirit. He later admitted that there were moments he felt his dream of a free South Africa might never be realised.
He never gives up, even though he was tested time and again with hope; in his hopelessness, he has hope. He stands stronger in his weakness when he thought he could not see the home again, and believes things can still change. You must be smart when you are tested with hope and the reality of your desires.
''Nelson Mandela Small signs kept hope alive — smuggled news of protests outside, secret visits from allies, letters of encouragement, and his own deep belief in justice. Even tiny victories in prison (better conditions after protests) became sparks of hope. Over the years, those sparks grew into a flame. By the late 1980s, global pressure against apartheid mounted, and Mandela realised freedom was approaching. When he finally walked out of prison in 1990, his hope had turned into reality. In 1994, Mandela became South Africa’s first Black president. The vision that almost died in a prison cell became a living testimony of resilience.
The reality hits him when he refuses to give up in the very test of life.
When you keep your hope alive in the strangest times of life, you will always come out with your testimony of victory.
The Promised Land
Every dreamer always wants to get to their Promised Land, but not every Promised Land receives the dreamer.
You must be among those who get to their Promised Land. Your promised land may be your Business dream, family dream, innovation, or invention, and whatever it may be. Whatever the projection of your dream may be, you must be determined to get there
Daniel’s story tells us that, after all the rough road, frustration, distraction, betrayal, and losing hope, steadfastness gets him to his Promised Land.
Your determination projects how the journey will be, steadfastness shows your resilience, and self-motivation describes how you will get to the Promised Land.

Do not give up. Not now. Not here. Not when your Promised Land is closer than it feels.
The wilderness is not forever. The silence is not the end. The pain is not wasted. Every step is shaping you, every trial is training you, and every scar is proof that you are chosen for something greater.
Your Promised Land is not a myth. It is real. It is waiting. And one day, you will stand in it, triumphant, and say:
